The Love of Three Oranges - Set Design

The Love of Three Oranges is styled after old fashion theater, commedia del arte. Jac wanted the set to look simple and represent the feeling of an Italian traveling Clown troope. The concept for the show was exploring and discovering yourself, new people, and new adventures. With those words she thought of how life presents us with up’s and down’s, so she wanted levels in her design. The two ramps were able to move in all directions and create levels for actors to walk up and down. For the set design and decorating, Jac wanted to give the set a Renaissance look, since the Renaissance was the Age of Exploration and Discovery. Jac was also inspired by stain glass windows in European castles, pristine forests, and the grandness that can be seen in simplicity

Budget Spent:

The stain glass windows of fruit in the tree  represent the kingdom being plentiful and sweet.

Here's the entire cast on stage for the Palace party sequence

The Princes Room had a dark colored chaise lounge to keep with the Renaissance theme and represent his depression. His side table had no drawers to better show all the medication he was taking.

The forest ramps were painted to look rocky with grass to make it more realistic to believe they could be climbed. Plus the dark tones allow the Forest to become more mysterious and scary.

The tree was made from thin pieces of wood, paper mache, and a deconstructed fake Christmas.

This scene takes place in a witches castle courtyard. A fake brick wall came down from the flies with two windows attached and was cut to hide the mountain ramp facade perfectly.

At the end of the show orange and white confetti fell down.

The log was made by using a bench, chicken wire, and paper mache
